24 shows. No repeated setlists. One orb that might change what a concert can be.

Metallica have announced a Las Vegas residency at Sphere, and the demand was significant enough that 16 additional dates were added within the same week of announcement. Life Burns Faster now runs 24 shows across October 2026 through March 2027.

The band are a good fit for a venue built around the idea that an audience shouldn't watch a show so much as inhabit one. Metallica have spent four decades treating concerts as environments — the 360-degree M72 stage, the Snake Pit, the pyrotechnics that have become as much a part of the canon as the riffs. Their M72 World Tour played to more than 4 million people across seven continents, praised as much for its production as its performance.

Sphere meets that ambition with its own. The exosphere LED display wraps the entire interior. Sphere Immersive Sound calibrates audio to every seat in the house. The 4D technology means a Metallica riff doesn't just hit your ears — it hits your chest, your spine, your nervous system.

Given what the band have always asked of a live show, that instinct makes sense. The residency, Ulrich says, is another chance to reinvent how Metallica interacts with fans live — and if the M72 tour is any benchmark, that ambition is credible.

Each Thursday/Saturday pairing delivers a different setlist, making Life Burns Faster effectively 24 distinct concerts. For fans willing to make the trip more than once, that's a rare proposition — and one that sits inside a venue experience designed to reward repeat attendance.

Sphere was always conceived as a global network. A second venue is planned for Abu Dhabi. Each residency builds the case that immersive, technology-driven live entertainment is already here — and, with Metallica in the building, getting considerably louder.
